Easy Mock Clotted Cream

Easy mock clotted cream in a small blue mason jar with a freshly baked scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream on a plate next to it with more scones in the background.

When I make classic scones I typically want some delicious, creamy clotted cream to go along with them. The process for making authentic clotted cream while simple, is very time consuming. My recipe for easy mock clotted cream gives you the delicious creaminess and touch of sweetness that traditional clotted cream gives you but takes a fraction of the time to make. You can whip up a batch in less than five minutes!

This mock clotted cream goes perfectly with my classic scone recipe.

Why Make Easy Mock Clotted Cream?

As a self-professed anglophile I love the British tradition of having afternoon tea. You will typically find scones as an accompaniment to traditional afternoon tea and along with the scones you will find jam and clotted cream along with all sorts of other delicious treats. Unfortunately in the U.S. authentic clotted cream is hard to come by. That is where this easy mock clotted cream comes in. This mock version:

  • Tastes delicious: Rich, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet.
  • Takes minutes to make: Instead of waiting 12+ hours, you can whip this up in under 5 minutes.
  • Uses easy-to-find ingredients: No need to search for special types of cream; everything you need is in most grocery stores.

Ingredients you will need for this easy mock clotted cream:

*This recipe makes about 2 cups of mock clotted cream. You can easily halve the recipe if you need less.*

  • 8 oz room temperature cream cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Directions:

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer add the cream cheese, heavy cream sugar.
  • Using the whisk attachment whisk the mixture on medium high speed for 1 to 2 minutes until well combined and “whipped up”.
  • Can be served immediately or chilled beforehand.
  • Store in an air tight container for up to 7 days.

Notes:

  • If you don’t have a stand mixer you can mix by hand, it will just take a little bit longer.
  • You can serve the mock clotted cream immediately. But I enjoy letting it chill in the fridge for at least a couple hours before enjoying.
  • I like to store in a wide mouth mason jar but any air tight container will do.
  • The classic pairing is with strawberry jam but you can use whatever jam you would like.
  • This recipe makes about 2 cups of mock clotted cream. You can easily halve the recipe if you need less.
